Yoga ruined Abby’s life. Richard Freeman often says that “yoga ruins your life”. As in the unconscious experience of living before yoga is destroyed. When Abby started practicing yoga she found a heightened state of awareness that allowed her observe her attachments and those of the world around her in a new light. She no longer felt the need to participate in a life of endless suffering and she went on the spiritual journey of a yoga teacher training rooted in the raja tradition. The practices of raja emphasize the integration of breath, body, and mind to promote spiritual growth. It was during this training that Abby was first introduced to the Ashtanga lineage and the primary series. Following many moons of vinyasa flow practice and a persistent curiosity surrounding the Ashtanga system, Abby wandered into the Mysore room. Ashtanga was like no other yoga she had encountered, offering one-on-one instruction, intelligent and supportive hands-on adjustments and an opportunity to both examine and condition the fluctuations of the nervous system under stress. Abby studies both the primary and intermediate series of Ashtanga and she is an assistant under the guidance of her teachers. In addition to Abby’s work in the Ashtanga School, she teaches vinyasa classes creating space to find presence and peace. Abby encourages students to move intuitively and listen to the internal cues of the body while moving through a fluid sequence of postures grounded in breath. Abby spends her free time playing with her two fluffy cats, Fitzgerald and Basil, sitting in sunny window ledges and preparing plant-based dishes while listening to all of Taylor Swift’s albums on repeat.
